Early rain or drizzle in the north and west

High pressure will dominate weather patterns, giving a mainly fair start to September, although this will be interrupted for a time by weakening frontal troughs from the northwest at first and, perhaps, showers in the south later, where a freshening northeast wind will become a feature. Aside from that breeze, warming up generally in the south.

Saturday 01/09/18
A ridge of high pressure maintains fine weather in the east and south but with a moist southwesterly flow to the north and west with weakening occluded troughs moving southeast. Dry with spells of sunshine across the south and east of England. Cloudier generally for Scotland, Ireland and the west of England and Wales with some rain or drizzle, especially over western coasts and hills but with some sunshine evetually breaking through in more sheltered spots. Highs 14 to 18C in the north, rising southwards up to 21 to 23C in the southeast.

Sunday 02/09/18
High pressure persists across the east and south of Britain but a waving frontal trough pushes east into Scotland and Ireland. Much of England and Wales dry with spells of sunshine, the best of this in the east but western areas cloudier at times again with a little drizzle, chiefly around hills and coasts in Northwest England and West Wales, the risk of any dampness increasing later. Scotland and Ireland mostly cloudy with rain or drizzle moving slowly east, although Northeast Scotland may stay dry until the night time. Highs 14 to 18C in the north but reaching a warmer 22 or 23C in the southeast.

Monday 03/09/18
A belt of high pressure builds across much of Britain and Ireland but with a weakening cold front embedded within, moving southeast. A band of rain, turning patchy, over Southern Sctoald, the far north of England and parts of Ireland will move southeast into Northern England, the Midlands, Wales and the Southwest, with dry and brighter weather following. Central Southern England and the East / Southeast will remain dry, however, with some sunshine. Highs 14 to 17C in the north and west, up to a warm 24 to 26C for the southeast.

Tuesday 04/09/18
A ridge of high pressure dominates, with the frontal zone across central areas continuing to weaken. Still some residual cloud and light rain or drizzle across Northern England, the Midlands, Wales and the Southwest, although this will slowly peter out. Sunny intervals to the north and west of this but with light showers into the north and west of Scotland and, perhaps, Northern Ireland. Largely dry with some sunshine for the south and east of England but a risk of showers later. Brisk southwest winds develop in the far north of Scotland and northeasterlies across Southern England. Highs 14 to 17C in the north and west, 23 to 25C in the east and south.

Wednesday 05/09/18
A ridge of high pressure extends northeast across Britain and Ireland, maintaing settled weather for most. Variable cloud cover, with sunny spells developing quite widely, and dry for most areas. A little rain or drizzle may brush the North of Scotland for a time, while there is a risk of showers in the south and southeast. Highs 14 to 18C in the north, 21 to 24C across the southeast.

Thursday 06/09/18
High pressure continues to dominate. Dry for much of Britain and Ireland with some sunshine but a possibility that the south of England will be cloudier with the threat of rain or showers (confidence low for wet weather). Highs 14 to 17C in the north and west, 20 to 23C in the southeast.
